Welcome to Wise Women on Horseback, my name is Kim Mowatt and my wonderful journey started approximately 8 years ago. My business was called “Healing Horses”, launched on the beautiful and eclectic Saltspring Island, the largest of the Gulf Islands in B.C. I had worked in institutional psychiatric settings for a total of 23 years at that point. There was an idea in the back of my mind for at least a decade about “Counselling on Horseback” combining my Psychiatric Nursing skills with counselling and my passion for horses. My passion began at age 7 (it started with “Big Red!"), and now approaching 49, my enthusiasm continues as a lifelong dream. I had to exercise my courage muscle, as leaving the security of working as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse to starting a new home business was....incredibly scary, but I researched the “how to manuals” and dived into the unknown. I put in my first ad locally with minimal print (so I would not be noticed- what would happen if I was?)  It was Saltspring Island- how many people would really be interested in counselling and receive riding instruction? After the day the ad came out, I had to fasten my seatbelts. I received many calls, which left me researching time management and setting boundaries on time.  I worked much of my time for free, asking for very little, as it was after all, what I love to do! How could I charge people for what I feel natural and comfortable and love doing? Since then I have grown as a business woman, but am, and always will be generous with my time- it is a value.  As with the Law of Attraction, generosity has come in abundance my way!

I am a Certified Professional Life Coach, Certified Counsellor Registered Psychiatric Nurse, and Riding Instructor. I have had many successes in Competitive Trail Riding and endurance. I have two teenage boys age 14 and 16. One is a First Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo, and the other a Second Degree Black Belt. I have a wonderful, supportive husband, Glenn Mowatt, who is a pilot and works in the film industry in Vancouver. He reminds me.... remember Kim, when we had one horse and one vehicle between us? Remember when you lived in your small one room apartment close to the hospital so you could get quickly to work doing your 12 hour shifts as a nurse, the sirens going all night long in the city? He reminds me of the personal growth and vision that we both created. It blossomed into a magical 154 acres on private lakefront with 9 horses backing onto the beautiful rolling hills and wildflowers and lakes of the Caribou. 

There was no doubt I would be living my dream. My vision board has everything that I cut, pasted and drew on in one decade ago.  Ask me about the Law of Attraction, and ways you can make your dreams a joyful reality!
